Winner for the 2005
Name the Osprey Chicks
Competition!

The Friends of Blackwater are proud to announce that Bonnie Kelley is our contest winner. She was the first person to enter the names Thunder and Lightning as names for our chicks.

The Blackwater Refuge staff thought these were fitting names since our intrepid osprey chicks have survived quite a few storms this season, including the big one that blew out our camera and solar panel -- among the worst damage we've ever incurred from a storm.

Since the oldest chick is the bigger of the two and has really kept the littlest on its toes during their short lives, we decided to name the oldest Thunder and the youngest Lightning.

Bonnie is from Chesterfield, Michigan -- a town in the Detroit area -- where they have an osprey society and several osprey hacking towers. She's been following the cam website since last summer, and she's an avid bird watcher, as are her cats, but for reasons of their own. :-)

Bonnie will receive an official Blackwater Refuge osprey cap and a certificate of appreciation for helping us name the ospreys. And we want to thank everyone who took the time to share their creative talents with us. We had many wonderful entries this season.
