We invite all our cam watchers
to participate in our 2007 Eaglet-Naming Competition.
Participation is free.
This year we are proud to announce that our contest judges will be the race directors of the EagleMan Ironman 70.3 Triathlon,
a race that is held on June 10, 2007, and part of which runs through Blackwater Refuge. Read below to find out more about the
EagleMan Ironman 70.3 Triathlon.
Participants whose eaglet names are chosen as the winners will receive a certificate and prize
from the Friends of Blackwater and also a prize from the EagleMan Ironman race directors.
Our partner site WildCam.com will be hosting the contest, as it has done in previous years. Visit the contest page on their
website to enter your names (two names per email address). You have to register
at WildCam.com to enter the contest, but they will not share your email address with anyone. We only ask for email
addresses so that we can notify winners. If you've registered with their site in previous contests, just use that information
again to enter. If you're new to the contest, register and sign-in, then return to the contest entry page
or visit the WildCam home page and follow the contest link
from there.
The closing date for the contest is April 13, 2007, midnight EDT. If two or more people submit the same name,
the person who first submitted it will be allocated that name. So before entering,
you might want to check on the WildCam entry page for the eaglet names already submitted.
As we mentioned in the Eagle Cam Web Log, we will not know
for sure what gender the chicks are, so we prefer unisex names, but it's all right to enter gender-based names if you prefer.
Good luck to everyone!

EagleMan Ironman 70.3 Triathlon

The
EagleMan Ironman 70.3 Triathlon, takes place in Cambridge on the Eastern shore of Maryland --
an area highlighted by James Michener in his award-winning book, "Chesapeake". This event is one of only 20, 70.3 triathlon
events around the world to qualify its top triathletes for the famous
Ford Ironman Triathlon World Championship on the big
island of Hawaii in October. The EagleMan event is comprised of a 1.2-mile swim in the Choptank River,
a 56-mile bike race through Blackwater Refuge, and a 13.1-mile run to Horns Point, with the Start/Finish at Great Marsh Park.
The EagleMan Ironman 70.3 race is now 15 years old and attracts many of the very best amateur and elite triathletes from
around the USA and the globe. This year there will be participants from 40 states and 7 foreign countries racing for those
coveted Kona, Hawaii slots. We expect nearly 5000 people in Cambridge, over 4 days, for this year's June 10, 2007 event.
Among the many features of the race that attracts these athletes is the professional race management and the Blackwater
National Wildlife Refuge, which is home to the American Bald Eagle -- a raptor even more highlighted this year with the
recent birth of two eaglets on the Blackwater Refuge Eagle Cam. The EagleMan Ironman 70.3 is happy to join with the Friends
of Blackwater and be part of the 2007 Eaglet-Naming Contest, and we look forward to providing some goodies to the winners.
